La brillante carrera del guitarrista Fernando Espí se asienta en una innata sensibilidad musical unida a una sólida formación técnica. Último Premio Extraordinario Fin de Carrera del maestro internacional D. José Tomás en el Conservatorio Superior “Oscar Esplá” de Alicante. Posee el título profesional de la especialidad de música antigua con instrumentos de cuerda pulsada y es licenciado en Historia y Ciencias de la Música. Actualmente es catedrático del Conservatorio Superior de Música "Manuel Massotti" de Murcia.
Ha sido galardonado en concursos nacionales e internacionales de reconocido prestigio, entre otros: Juventudes Musicales de España (Primer Premio), Certamen Internacional de Guitarra "Francisco Tárrega" de Benicasim (Segundo Premio y Premio Especial Mejor Interpretación de la Obra de Tárrega), Concurso Internacional de Guitarra "José Tomás" de Petrer (Segundo Premio y Premio Especial Mejor Interpretación de Música Española), Concurso Internacional de Guitarra "Luys Milán" (Primer Premio), Concurso Internacional S.A.R. la Infanta Doña Cristina - Fundación Guerrero de Madrid (Tercer Premio y Premio Especial Mejor Interpretación de Música Española) o Concurso Internacional "Guitarras Alhambra" de Valencia (Premio del Público).
Su carrera concertística le lleva a recorrer toda la geografía española actuando como solista en importantes festivales -Festival de la Guitarra de Córdoba o el Festival de Música y Danza de Granada- y prestigiosos escenarios como el Auditorio “Manuel de Falla” de Granada, el Palau de la Música de Valencia, el Auditorio Nacional de Madrid o el Palau de la Música de Barcelona. Con sus giras internacionales visita más de treinta países de Europa, América, Oriente Próximo, Asia y Norte de África, colaborando con entidades como el Joven Coro Mundial de la UNESCO o el Instituto Cervantes.
Compagina esta labor con la impartición de clases magistrales en cursos y festivales, la dirección artística del Festival Internacional de Guitarra “Ciutat de Xixona”, la grabación de discos los cuales han recibido las mejores críticas en revistas especializadas y la creación de su propio sello discográfico “6x8”. The brilliant success of guitarist Fernando Espí is the result of his an innate musical sensitivity, combined with a solid technical grounding. Considered by the classical music press to be ‘one of the greatest Spanish classical guitarists’ (Ritmo), and ‘an emerging new talent...an outstanding guitarist of the new generation’ (Classical Guitar), he has also been situated ‘amongst the most shining interpreters of the six strings’ (Scherzo).
Fernando is the last student of the great master José Tomás winning the Extraordinary End-of-Course Prize at the “Oscar Esplá” Superior Music Conservatory of Alicante. He has obtained a professional qualification in Performance in early plucked-string instruments and he is also a graduate in Science and Music History. Nowadays he teaches at the High Conservatory "Manuel Massotti" of Murcia (Spain).
Fernando has been a prize-winner at major national and international guitar competitions, including the Jeunesses Musicales of Spain (First Prize), the Princess Cristina Guitar Competition at the Guerrero Foundation in Madrid (Third Prize and Best Spanish Performance Prize), the José Tomás International Guitar Competition of Petrer (Second Prize), the Luys Milán International Guitar Competition (First Prize) and the Francisco Tárrega Competition of Benicasim (Second Prize and Best Tarrega’s Piece Performance).
Fernando’s concert career has taken him all over Spain, performing as a soloist at major festivals such as the Guitar Festival of Córdoba and Music and Dance Granada Festival, and at venues such as the Auditorio Manuel de Falla in Granada, Palau de la Música in Valencia, the National Auditorium in Madrid or the Palau de la Música in Barcelona. He has also played at halls and festivals in more than thirty countries across Europe, America, North of Africa and Asia, collaborating with official entities like the Spanish Cervantes Institute or the UNESCO World Youth Choir.
Fernando combines a busy concert career with teaching masterclasses as part of various guitar courses and festivals. He is also Artistic Director of the International Guitar Festival "Ciutat de Xixona" and has created his own record label, 6x8.
